Sangaku Schal Strickanleitung

Sangaku - SHAWL - Knitting Pattern

A Sangaku (or San Gaku) is an often beautifully colored small, wooden tablet offered in shinto shrines in Japan, illustrating mathematical problems. They derive from the Edo period (1603-1867), in which Japan was cut off from the Western world. But people from all classes, ranging from farmer to samurai, produced geometrical theorems, which where shared with each other.

This shawl is not a real Sangaku - instead it evokes these memories from the past and creates its own geometrical play.
