I live in a sleepy little German town. The people here are friendly, the city is characterized by trees and parks, and life flows in a gentle rhythm.

Once, Bonn was a bustling capital, but today it is known for its coziness, past glory, and one very famous resident. Every heart in Bonn swells with pride at the mention of his name: Ludwig van Beethoven.

To the bewilderment of tourists, the shops in the city center sometimes don’t open until noon, but rain or shine, they will always find the imposing statue of this famous citizen dominating Münsterplatz.

The statue has always held special significance for me. It’s a touchstone, something that symbolizes home. In the summer, people sit at his feet, chatting, relaxing, and enjoying the sun. But when the cold winter winds and snow drive the city’s residents indoors, the "great man" stands there alone, steadfast, braving the elements.

This image of Beethoven in winter—a coat of soft, thick snow on his shoulders—was the inspiration for this design.

Snow upon stone. Light grey upon dark. The tracks of pigeons in the snow at his feet. All these elements are reflected in the design of these charming mitts. Embark on a journey to Bonn as you knit the Beethoven Mitts.
