Sangaku Schal Strickanleitung

Sangaku - SHAWL - Knitting Pattern

The "Sangaku" shawl is inspired by the colorful wooden panels from the Edo period. It combines geometric patterns with the creative concept of Sangakus to create a unique knitting design. Discover the joy of mathematical challenges and knit your own masterpiece!

A Sangaku (or San Gaku) is an often beautifully colored small, wooden tablet offered in shinto shrines in Japan, illustrating mathematical problems. They derive from the Edo period (1603-1867), in which Japan was cut off from the Western world. But people from all classes, ranging from farmer to samurai, produced geometrical theorems, which where shared with each other.

This shawl is not a real Sangaku - instead it evokes these memories from the past and creates its own geometrical play.
