Hello everyone, I’m Melanie Berg – though many of you know me better as Mairlynd. I’m a knitwear designer from Germany, and since 2012, when I left my job as an IT specialist, I’ve been living my dream: creating beautiful, modern knitwear that’s meant to be worn and loved.

I design with color and texture in mind, always searching for the perfect balance between comfort and style. Clean lines, playful details, and here and there a little surprise – whether in the construction or a bold color combination.

I’m thrilled to share that Easy Sweaters to Knit, the English version of my latest book, will be released in August by Search Press. Inside, you’ll find 13 cozy sweaters, cardigans, and tops that reflect my personal journey as a knitter and designer. It’s all about finding joy in handmade garments, trying new things, and falling in love with yarn all over again.

Let me introduce you to three of my favorite designs from the book:

Quiet City
(Yes, that’s the one on the cover!)

In the evening, a special kind of calm settles over the city – and this design is made for exactly that moment.
It’s knit with Shibui Echo and Silk Cloud held together, creating a light, flowing, and incredibly elegant fabric. The soft collar can be worn inside or out, the armholes are subtly hidden, and a diamond pattern across the chest and shoulders makes it a real eye-catcher.

A garment that immediately wraps you in comfort – just warm enough, beautifully shaped, and incredibly easy to wear.

Peach Fuzz
This design is very close to my heart.

Peach Fuzz stands for strength. For healing. For those tender moments after cancer treatment when you reclaim your life – and your hair.
I named this sweater Peach Fuzz because I embraced the soft, funny fuzz that grew back after chemotherapy. Knitting this piece was a small celebration of this new beginning for me.

It’s knit with super-soft Woolfolk yarn that feels like a cloud and is simply perfect for comfort.
And don’t worry about gauge: I’ve included notes on how to adjust the size if your tension is different. The most important thing is that the sweater fits you perfectly.

A Study in Pink
Sometimes the most beautiful yarns call for the simplest patterns.

This sweater is a loving nod to a Sherlock Holmes case and one of my favorite lace designs in the book. Seamlessly knit from top down, A Study in Pink features delicate lace details at the collar and hem – a perfect balance of subtle and elegant.

Ideal for those special hand-dyed skeins you’ve been saving – like the soft heathered pink I used. Holmes himself would have admired the depth of this color!

I hope you enjoy knitting these designs as much as I enjoyed creating them.
